Tell us about what you’re studying and how things have been going.
I attend UW-Madison, where (besides studying!) I am involved in intramural sports, a business fraternity, clubs and the rec centers. I think the combination of my finance and entrepreneurship majors will allow me to look at a company from both the technical and managerial side.
At school, I attend various entrepreneurial events. I am learning that sales is a critical part of any business, which is why I’m glad to have this opportunity at Molded Dimensions Group. The role has been great so far. I am meeting everyone on the team and have felt welcome. The culture has been awesome because everyone is eager to help if I have any questions.
What does a typical day as a Sales Intern look like?
I typically arrive at the office at 8:15 for our 8:30 estimating meeting. I then have a meeting with the General Manager to review work and plan for what I will work on that day. Then, I work for a while on my current project. I tend to consult one of our Estimating Engineers and Outside Sales Managers if I have any questions about tools or prints of parts. I like to eat lunch with other team members, and then I get back to work on projects.
How did you learn about this opportunity at Molded Dimensions Group?
I learned about the opportunity from my former boss, Matt Kirchner. I was in search of more work experience, and he connected me with Molded Dimensions Group’s CEO and General Manager.
What do you like about working for Molded Dimensions Group thus far?
I enjoy how collaborative the environment is. When I have a question, anyone on the team is happy to assist me. I am also excited about the collaboration on the manufacturing floor. It is great because I can get some tangible experience with the tools that I am working on modeling. It is also a good way to meet the team members that work on that floor.
What do you hope to learn through this experience?
I am hoping to learn more about the necessary skills to be successful in sales. For example, what kind of information to know before meeting with clients, how quickly to get quotes out, and other things like that.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy being outside. I like to go on hikes, play golf and other sports, and just be active. I try to be outside as much as possible in the summer because the winters at Madison can be so brutal.
