DFM is the optimization of a component’s design, to create it more easily and with less cost. Vitally important, this procedure, done upfront, can save several months’ time in tooling modifications—but it needs to be accounted for in any project timeline.
Additional steps resulting from DFM, such as subsequent testing, modifications, texturing, and freight, must also be included in projected schedules.
