Tony Lukas, Chemist at Molded Dimensions Inc., visited UW-Eau Claire to share his work experience and perspective with the faculty and students in the Material Science department. Tony originally graduated from UW-EC with a degree in Chemistry and Business. His very first job was at a chemical company as a QA Chemist. With several jobs in between, Tony has been part of the MDI team for 11 years. We hope he will stay throughout and end his career with us.
The Material Science major is a more recent addition to the UW-EC offering. Realizing the opportunity, the UW-EC faculty was very receptive to discussing the current curriculum with a Chemist who works day-to-day in the rubber and urethane industry, as well as learning what new graduate knowledge is needed to perform well in their first job.
For Tony, the greatest opportunity is working directly with the students. The information shared about formulating and mixing compounds, processing techniques, as well as some rubber and urethane part examples relates what the students are learning to real world manufacturing. Tony also provided details about his specific career path and current potential opportunities within the rubber and urethane industries for students who will soon be graduating.
