The strength of Molded Dimensions Group comes from the people behind the processes. From the production floor to customer support, every team member plays a vital role in delivering quality solutions and outstanding service. Today, we shine the spotlight on Ryan Piper, who works in customer service and inside sales at our Marshfield, Wisconsin location. We learn about his journey, his role in customer service and quoting and what he enjoys outside of Molded Dimensions Group.

Tell us a bit about your past experiences and your current role at Molded Dimensions Group.
Before joining Molded Dimensions Group, I spent 17 years working for Applebee’s. I started as a cook and worked my way up to general manager, which taught me a lot about leadership, communication, problem-solving and customer satisfaction. Those experiences prepared me well for my current role in customer service. Today, I work closely with customers and internal teams to ensure we are providing solutions that meet our customers’ needs.

What does a typical day in customer service/inside sales at Marshfield look like?
My day usually starts with reviewing and responding to customer emails. I approve and enter orders, create new parts in our system and work with the team to quote new parts. Every day brings a mix of tasks, which keeps the role interesting. Communication and attention to detail are key, since we are often coordinating between customers, engineering and production to make sure everything flows smoothly.

Tell us about an experience that made you feel like you belonged at Molded Dimensions Group.
I actually started on the factory floor in the handcast department making urethane parts. I was nervous at first because I had never worked in a factory. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it or if the work was going to be boring. I was pleasantly surprised how interesting the job was and how well I fit in with the crew. That early experience helped me understand the process from the ground up. I’m glad I took this job and stayed on, it has been a great place to work.

What is a recent project you worked on that you found particularly interesting or fulfilling?
One highlight was having my first quote accepted by a customer. We are currently making the tooling and then will produce the first parts. It’s rewarding to see the hard work come together through the entire process — from a customer’s idea, to us engineering the drawing and tooling, then machining the tool and finally producing the part. It really is a cool process to see from start to finish.

Why do you like working at Molded Dimensions Group?
It’s a very interesting job. Seeing how the parts we manufacture are produced and understanding where they are used is cool. The people here are friendly and supportive, and it’s a good work environment to be in.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love spending time with my wife and our two kids — they keep me busy! When I am not hanging out with my family, I’m usually on the golf course or tackling projects around the house.

Do you have any secret talents?
Not many people know this, but I can juggle fire. I’ve been juggling since I was a kid and never stopped. If I have three similar objects nearby, I can’t help but start juggling them. The fire juggling usually comes out on the 4th of July or for special occasions.
